For today’s episode I chat with Nancy Herz, a human rights activist and the co-author of the book “shameless” which is a collection of stories from girls who have personally experienced negative social control. Through her Activism Nancy strives to tackle the restrictive roles set for youth in an effort to inspire them to take control of their lives and create for themselves their own identity, values and dreams. Nancy was personally affected by negative social control and a shame-honor culture growing up which made her struggle with her identity and she experienced guilt and shame and never feeling “good enough” in the eyes of her community. In this episode Nancy opens up about her journey to discover her true identity and her struggles with shame as she went against the expectations set before her by society, her family and community.
